November 2019

During November the consortium of the European project DIABFRAIL-LATAM held its training meetings for the researchers from centers based in Latin American countries, where -from next year- recruitment and intervention will be carried out, according to the work plan approved for the project.

Thus, under the coordination of the team of the University Hospital of Getafe and its Research Foundation, led by Dr. Rodriguez Mañas, and with the participation of researchers from the Spanish Universities of Valencia, Castilla-La Mancha and Murcia, the representative of the Spanish Confederation of Associations of Older Adults (CEOMA), and researchers from the Catholic University of Sacro Cuore in Rome meetings were held in Colombia and Chile.

On 14 and 15 November researchers from the Javeriana University of Bogota, of the National Institute of Geriatrics of Mexico and the Pan American Health Organization, the specialized health agency of the inter-American system, affiliated to the World Health Organization, joined the European delegates in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. On November 18 and 19, researchers from the Catholic University of Chile, the University of Santiago de Chile and the University of San Martín de Porres of Lima, Peru, joined in Santiago de Chile to the European partners coming from Cartagena.

Project deputy coordinator, Dr. Olga Laosa

Both meetings, with a very cordial and participative approach, were extremely productive. In addition to the training needed for the participating centres to carry out the intervention proposed in the project, the participants agreed on several relevant decisions regarding the consortium and the adaptation of the protocol to the objectives of DIABFRAIL-LATAM.

The sharing of the views of all participants has enabled the consortium to make the necessary adaptations to the work plan in order to carry out the planned tasks, minimising the potential risks associated with any clinical study and avoiding the possibilities of facing undesirable delays.
