The DIABFRAIL-LATAM project, led by CIBER and the Getafe Hospital Foundation, and supported by PAHO, extends to nine countries in Latin America and the Caribbean to investigate diabetes in the elderly. Funded by the European Commission, this multimodal program includes exercise, education and nutrition to improve the physical function of frail and pre-frail seniors with diabetes. Currently under development in Colombia, Peru, Mexico and Chile, more than 700 people are participating in the clinical trial, with completion scheduled for April 2024. Dr. Olga Laosa, deputy coordinator, emphasizes the importance of education and early detection in the treatment of this disease. The project is in the validation phase and led by Dr. Rodríguez Mañas, focused on frailty in older patients. The objective is to improve the quality of life and functionality in elderly people with diabetes.
