Gran encuentro de divulgación del programa Diabfrail Latam Santa Marta, Colombia 16-19 de marzo de 2023

Una de las actividades de difusión de mayor impacto llevadas a cabo por el consorcio del programa “Diabfrail Latam”, ha sido el evento de divulgación realizado en Santa Marta, Colombia del 16 al 19 de marzo de 2023. Este evento se llevó a cabo coincidiendo con el curso de la Academia Latinoamericana de Geriatría (ALMA), que este año estuvo específicamente enfocado al tratamiento de la diabetes en adultos mayores frágiles y especialmente orientado al enfoque adoptado por Diabfrail. El curso, cuyo título fue “DIABETES MELLITUS: UN RETO EN LA ATENCIÓN A LAS PERSONAS MAYORES”, fue el marco perfecto para dar a conocer el proyecto Diabfrail entre el público más especializado en el campo de la Geriatría.

A este evento asistieron científicos e investigadores especializados en envejecimiento, geriatras y fisioterapeutas, no sólo de los cuatro países latinoamericanos participantes en el proyecto (Colombia, Chile, México y Perú), sino también de varios otros países latinoamericanos (Argentina, Brasil, Paraguay, Ecuador, Panamá, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, México y República Dominicana), así como países europeos como España y Noruega.

El objetivo de esta acción de difusión a gran escala ha sido presentar el enfoque adoptado en DIABFRAIL-LATAM a investigadores de todo el continente y realizar diversas acciones de formación a través de ponencias realizadas por varios de los investigadores del proyecto para que se pueda, a su vez, difundir el proyecto en sus respectivos países.

Además, esta acción tiene otro componente crucial, que ha sido servir de enlace entre los investigadores participantes de todos estos países latinoamericanos y sus autoridades nacionales facilitando así el escalado. Así, a su regreso a sus respectivos países, estos investigadores se pusieron en contacto con sus autoridades nacionales para involucrarse en el escalado del proyecto. Con este fin, PAHO ya ha mantenido conversaciones para lograr la implementación efectiva en varios países además de los 4 participantes en el proyecto.

Esta actividad ha sido de gran importancia para avanzar en la máxima y más efectiva difusión del proyecto en toda la región y al mismo tiempo, lograr un escalado efectivo involucrando al mayor número posible de países latinoamericanos. Los asistentes mostraron interés para implementar Diabfrail en sus países, lo que da una idea del impacto que está teniendo el programa.

One of the highest impact dissemination activities carried out by the consortium has been the dissemination event held in Santa Marta, Colombia (16 to 19 of March, 2023), coinciding with the course of the Latin American Academy of Geriatrics (ALMA), which this year was specifically focused on the treatment of diabetes in the frail older adults and especially oriented towards the approach adopted by DIABFRAIL-LATAM. This event was attended by ageing research scientists, geriatricians and physiotherapists not only from the four participating Latin American countries (Colombia, Chile, Mexico and Peru) but also from several other Latin American countries (Argentina, Brasil, Paraguay, Ecuador, Panama, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico and República Dominicana) and European countries (Spain and Noruega). The purpose of this large-scale dissemination action has been to present the approach adopted in DIABFRAIL-LATAM to researchers from all over the continent and to carry out various training actions about it through presentations given by several of the project’s researchers so that these attending researchers can in turn disseminate the project in their respective countries. In addition, this action has another crucial component, which has been to act as a liaison between the participating researchers from all these Latin American countries and their national authorities for the purposes of the scaling up. Thus, upon their return to their respective countries, these researchers will contact their national authorities to get involved in the scaling-up of the project in their respective countries. To this end, PAHO has already held discussions to achieve effective scaling-up in several countries besides the 4 participating ones in the project. This activity has been of great importance to advance in the maximum and most effective dissemination of the project throughout the region and at the same time to achieve an effective scaling up involving as many Latin American countries as possible. PAHO received many communications with interest of potential partners to implement Diabfrail in the country level.
